FERMENTATION SCIENTIST

DESCRIPTION

The successful incumbent will fill a vital role to the company and is both a leader and a team player capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment. S/he has demonstrated expertise in multiple areas amongst (but not limited to): microbiology, microbial physiology, fermentation science, process optimization, tech transfer & scale-up. The incumbent will work with inter-disciplinary team members, senior management and can expect to have the opportunity for their role to grow in parallel with the company.

TASKS & DUTIES

  • -Develop, lead and perform optimization of bench-top fermentation processes
  • -Develop analytical testing program to monitor fermentation process and harvest products
  • -Participate in projects related to the development or application of fermentation processes, process optimization, process validation, and process robustness testing
  • -Identify and evaluate new technologies to increase process efficiency
  • -Technical transfer of developed procedures to production teams or collaborators
  • -Author master batch records and SOPs for transferred/developed process in compliance with all current GMP regulations and company SOPs
  • -Perform routine fermentation laboratory maintenance, cleaning and train/ mentor interns or associates in these tasks
  • -Remain current on new technologies and relevant literature
  • -Develop strategies to improve products yields and reduce overall fermentation costs
  • -Write and execute validation protocols for new and existing manufacturing processes
  • -Travel on occasion, for site visits to customers and/or partner facilities

QUALIFICATIONS

  • -PhD in Microbiology, fermentation science or equivalent field of study with 1+ years of industrial fermentation experience required or, MS with 5+ years of industrial experience
  • -Extensive knowledge of fermentation process development and troubleshooting from laboratory scale to pilot scale
  • -Specific experience with ethanol or methanol fermentation as well as GMP is a plus
  • -Experience with bioreactor technology and maintenance
  • -Demonstrated track record of technical achievements and problem solving
  • -Strong collaborator with ability to understand complex projects and interact daily with a multi-disciplinary team
  • -Responsible for experimental design, ability to interpret empirical data, use statistical analyses and develop subsequent work plan
  • -Demonstrated understanding of biological manufacturing and scale-up
  • -Concise, accurate oral & written reporting of technical data including batch records, SOPs, posters, and possible publications
